New Library

We're delighted to say that our fantastic new library is fully open and being used by all classes. It's packed with wonderful books for the children to enjoy. The library is arranged in two sections:
• one for the younger year groups, which has lots of wonderful picture books as well as early readers
• the other for older children, which is divided and colour-coded by the genre of the books.

We've also made sure many of the book covers are visible to help children choose books that appeal to them.

We know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but the covers of all our
lovely new books are so enticing, we don't want to hide them!

Teachers have scheduled regular visits to the library for their class during which the children may look around, enjoy the space and choose a library book to borrow. Each class has a sign out sheet so that we can keep track of where the library books are and ensure they're returned for other children to enjoy.

Each class from Year 3 to 6 has a Reading Ambassador whose role includes encouraging their classmates to borrow books from the library and helping to ensure these are returned.

In addition to the huge range of new books on offer, we're delighted that our plan to have a large visual to enhance the space has become a reality. The decal is now in place and looks fabulous. We'd like to thank:
• Local signwriters TimeSigns for producing the decal;
photodrones.com for giving us the most beautiful image of a bluebell wood;
• Swaffield PTA for making a financial contribution to the costs;
• Dawn Gibbons and our Alumni, who helped to raise enough money to make this decal possible.
We hope you'll agree that this image makes the library an even more wonderful place in which to spend time with books.

Open for parents and carers:
The library is now opening for parents and carers twice a week:

  • On Mondays from 8.45am to 9.15am so that parents/carers can pop in for a chat after they have dropped off their children. Ms Crolle will be there to answer any questions they may have.
  • On Fridays after school from 3.10pm until 3.30pm when parents/carers may come in with their children and borrow a book.
  • Please remember - all books must be signed out before taking them home and need to be returned within two weeks.
  • Book Swap (adult fiction books): we have a book swap for parents/carers to exchange books that they've read and wish to pass on. If you have an adult novel that's in good condition and you'd like to swap it, please bring it in when you visit Swaffield School Library.
