Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning is an integral part of school life at Swaffield. Whether it is planting seeds and caring for plants or a variety of other lessons, such as Maths, which maximise the benefits of being outdoors, children are able to enjoy learning outside.
Swaffield has a dedicated outdoor classroom where children in every year group are able to learn in a wonderful garden environment and connect with nature and the world around them.
Our Reception children have direct access from their classrooms into their own outdoor space in which they are able to learn outdoors. They enjoy their play area, reading space, and a wide range of activities with the Reception team.
Our Nursery children have their own dedicated outdoor space which allows a free flow between indoor and outdoor learning throughout the year.
Outdoor Learning in the Community: Swaffield is delighted to have strong links with the wonderful urban oasis Paradise Cooperative and children regularly take part in workshops at their site in Heathfield Road. In addition to learning about nature in this wonderful environment, they also build social and teamwork skills, independence and leadership skills too.
